Chahoua gecko (Mniarogekko chahoua)

Chahoua geckos are a species of gecko from the semi-tropical rainforests of New Caledonia. They are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. They are threatened by invasive predators, illegal harvesting for the pet trade, and habitat loss.​

In captivity they can live over 20 years. Adults ideally weigh around 40-50 grams. They only lay 6 eggs a year, causing them to be a more expensive gecko species.

Adult should be kept in at least a 20 gallon enclosure, but can thrive in larger setups. They require a heat source of around 70-78F. They should never be kept at 80F or higher long term, as this will cook your gecko. and daily humidity spikes of 80%. Geckos need both dry and wet periods to shed properly, so a average humidity of 60-75% and a daily spike of 80% is optimal. If you want to provide UVB light, a range of 1-2 UVI is recommended though not required. Chahoua geckos prefer to have room to climb and have cover, so be sure to add branches and plants for them.

These omnivorous geckos primarily eat insects in the wild, with fruits being eaten seasonally. Captive chahoua geckos do best on a mix of premade diet and insects.
